I along with two partners purchased Buena Vida, formerly Vivo Yo, last October. We just brought it from Stockton, through the Delta, out the San Francisco Bay and down the coast to Long Beach.

It's a 1979 382 with a Yannmar 3QM30. It had a rather large tool box onboard as well as a tiny Morgan tool kit. The Morgan kit probably had the most commonly needed tools.

The large tool kit usually didn't have the tools I needed. It would be a great idea to put together a list of tools needed for cruising.

I would start with a vise mounted to a length of
2X6, cordless drill and bits, screwdriver tips, hacksaw, hammer, chisel/punch set, screwdriver set, vise grips, needle nose pliers, crescent wrenches, pipe wrench, channel lock, wheel puller, c-clip pliers, a few sizes of socket wrenches and open end wrenches, like 14mm open end for bleeding injectors, heat gun, crimper, dikes, wire stripper, voltmeter...

What else, and what other sizes of wrenches?

I spend way too much time reading this board. The info and people are great, better than any board I've ever read.

Thanks again!

Set of nut drivers (best for hose clamps) and set of jewelers screwdrivers.

Am sure there are more....

Allen wrenches cannot be duplicated no matter how clever your are. Need these, of course you decide whether metric or fractional; when you need it, it will be the other, QED. I also have found a litle hand vise beibg useful, along with hacksaw and file; some bolts are ALWAYS too long.

Have fun, and fix it soon and quickly

A short (12 inches) piece of 1X2 board for tightening the engine belt (knocking alternator with hammer, using wood piece for tapping). Winch grease, small can of WD-40, strong/bright flashlight, and stainless steel seizing wire. Plus sheets of sandpaper of varying grits, for removing corroded parts of wire.

I have a small vice with a lever actuated suction cap base that has been part of my on-board tools forever and it has been invaluable when I've needed a third hand.

The suction cap works just about everywhere on board thanks to all that f/g.

Probably goes without saying but a GOOD knife and a fid. I love my non-folding knife in a 3 tool kit w/ holster that includes a fid and small pliers.

looks like we should all buy a second Morgan to act as a chase boat, with all the supplies and spares stored below!

Make sure wrenches fit packing nuts-prop. and rudder. A dry-run on both is recommended.Extra packing also- just in case.

Rick, what would you use duct tape on? I have never like due to two things, the breakdown in heat and adhesive left that is impossible to remove.
Jim

Duct tape is good for temporary repairs to hoses, and torn sails. I have also used it to attach a handheld GPS to the steering binacle. It really does come in handy for odd jobs.
