Wring Harness for Mast

My 382 manual talks about a "mast plug" for the wiring that leads to the mast for lighting wires. Mine has a buss bar under the head sink.

Is there a separate "plug" somewhere other than under the head sink? If yes, where is it?

All my lights are up and running but I'm not quite sure why. Finding an addition junction point like a "plug" would go a long way to helping me figure out why what I did worked.

I replaced all the mast wiring while we had the mast out. Ours is a 1981 M382. There is no plug. Only the terminal strip under the sink. Our terminal strip was corroded - screws were steel. I replaced the strip with a marine (translation = $$$) version. I needed more spaces anyway since I installed a masthead LED tricolor / anchor combo. (Thought about adding a windex light but I think I'll build a solar-powered rechargable LED light instead.)

I added additional terminal strips for the masthead wind instruments and the depth and speed transducers. The VHF has a coupler at the base of the mast.

A plug might simplify disconnection but terminal strips, ring connectors, and screws are positive & reliable. It also simplifies troubleshooting. Maybe if I pulled the mast every year for storage I would use a plug.

Good luck.

Like you Alan, I replaced the terminal strip and all connectors. I was just wondering if there was some other connector I had not found.

I moved the VHF connector from the base of the mast to under the sink so all the connectors would be in one, dry, place. I still want to figure out "why" my lights are working, but they are working and working beautifully. I'll let you all know when I figure it out.

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't think I was missing anything but this confirms it.

Hi everybody,
I will be unstepping the mast on my way through Erie canal. All the wires are terminated under the head sink except ST50
wind masthead transducer. I have one continues cable (30m long) going all the way to the display unit on the top of the companion way. I would like to cut it and then splice it back, or reconnect at the
terminal strip in the head. I am not sure that cutting and splicing is a way to go.
Please advise.

I'm not sure about the ST50 but I have an ST60+ with the wire spliced at a terminal strip under the sink in the head. I have not had any problems. I don't exactly remember but I think there are small 4 wires in that cable.

When I installed ST60 instruments (wind, depth, & speed) I asked RayMarine if it would be OK to cut the cables and use a terminal strip - they said no problem. So I have one terminal strip for the mast wiring, and a second for the instrument wiring. Should simplify things next time the mast comes out. Be sure to label the wires or make a diagram.
I think terminal strips & ring connectors are preferable to other types of wiring connections - also makes troubleshooting easier.
