Wiring problems

bert

Bert Okma
<div>Am I the only one to have discovered the wiring on my 383 was
done by idiots? Latest example was uncovered when attempting to replace a broken
reading light in the v-berth. The starboard cabin light circuit
comes forward with a branch to the starboard reading light then
crossing the v-berth under the headliner and terminating at the
port reading light. It leads down from the headliner to the
lamp through a teak cover about 3/4" wide. This teak cover was
installed with two small finishing nails, both of which were
nailed directly through the hot wire to the lamp!I shudder to think what else I will discover as I continue my
electrical work. Has anyone else encountered similiar problems?

<div>As you may already know our boats were built for a price. Gate valves instead of sea cocks and Scotch 561 connectors which are more approprite for a boat trailer for your "t" splices. Slide on connections at the circuit breakers and no particluar care give to drips or condenstation raining upon all those connections. Its just par for the course in the 70's & 80's. Almost anything can be improved.
