Winter Storage Cradle

mark

Julius Marcus
I realize that it is still August but I am starting to plan for
my winter haulout (Lake Erie). I am planning to have a steel
storage cradle built and I am looking for thoughts on it's
construction. This spring, my 384 weighted in at a robust 22K
pounds which didn't surprise me as much as it's causing me to
worry about building a cradle. I did find a cradle posting in
the archives but there was no direct response. Due to the
limitations of my marinas equipment, the cradle can only be 9
1/2 feet wide. I am looking for suggestions of steel size 6" or
8" c channel verses rectangular tubular steel and the number and
placement of the jack pads. Any input would be greatly
appreciated.

<div>Kip,
I am located in Erie, PA and you are welcome to measure and photograph my steel cradle. If you are interested please contact me so we can make arrangements.Regards

Thanks for the offer but school has started and I'm unable to make the road trip. I've pretty much decided to basically have the cradle built so it supports thwe boat fore and aft of the lifting sling marks. The approximate dimensions are 17feet by 9 feet. I am going to have six adjustable pads built so that i can safely lower one when i am working on the bottom paint. i did find a cradle in my marina that was once used for a M38 but i noticed it looked like the steel has started to twist so i will be using 8 inch steel. Thanks once again for the offer
