Washdown Pump

<div>382/3/4 owners,Those of you that have washdown pumps what type of pump did you
install and were you happy with it? Where did you mount the
pump? Did you "T" into an existing hose and whitch one or did
you add a dedicated thruhull? Where did you install the outlet?
How did you route the hose? Thanks,Vic Copelan

<div>Vic,
My washdown pump was installed when I bought Chatelaine. It's under the head sink and tee'd off the head sink drain. The hose runs forward under the shower seat port side of the vee-berth up under the forward locker in the vee-berth cabin, then comes out in the port aft bulkhead of the anchor locker! I changed the pump to a Flojet about 4-5 years ago and leave a 30 foot hose attached all the time. When anchoring, I pull out the hose and leave it on deck, when pulling up the anchor, I use the hose to clean up. It really works well, and with the Flojet, the pressure is good for all types of washdown and clean-up! Good Luck Vic!Fair winds and R D'sMick

Vic: Took mine of the head input which means it has 3 jobs, head, salt water pump in the galley, and the washdown. Installed the pump (Par same as fresh water) outboard of the clothes hamper mounted high with a ball valve shutoff and ran the hose vertically to the bulworks above this with a fitting with a male hose thread and cap. As a result of this location I use a 20 Ft. hose and can then go forward for anchor or aft if I wish. Found this easier than trying to run hose forward. Good luck

<div>Mick ,When you "T" into the sink drain did you experience any cloging in the sink drain because of the "T" you installed?I had a "T" in my gally sink drain in my old boat and it constantly gave problems... but then again it was a gally sink not a head sink.Dick,Why did you install a valve between the pump and the outlet deck fitting? By-the-way,Oconee uses a 1.5 inch thru hull to serve the engine, saltwater gally sink pump, and head intake at present. I'm not sure a hose will go behind the cabinet in the head in the Oconee but I'm goning to check.I don't know wheather the rest of the Association would be interested but I would love to see you and Judy expand your log into an article on the Bermuda Race. Thanks to both of you for your help.Fariwind and Rum Drinks,Vic C

Vic: Well you can see Morgan put many of these boats together in different ways. My engine intake is 3/4". The saltwater pump in the galley is a hose off the head intake as I said. It was tight but I was able to get the hose up there. Lenny is pushing me so you will see an article on Bermuda. Happy Sailing!

<div>Vic, As I mentioned, I didn't do the teeing off my head sink drain line, the previous owner did! But, to his credit, it seems to work fine. I've had no problems at all, except with the noisey pump I had. The head intake might be a better solution, but like the other fellow who posted, mine feeds both the head and the salt water pump in the galley. I have found that it's easy to winterize (I'm not sure where you live or if you have to winterize) by simply pouring a bit of non-toxic antifreeze into the head sink and turning on the washdown pump until the "pink stuff" comes out the hose! Good luck,Mick
