Theorical diésel use Morgan 382 Yanmar 3QM30H

Hello friends, i am about to sail on a ofshore trip on my 38 footer Morgan. Just rebuilt the engine, a Yanmar 3qm30h. All looks sharp. Does anyone know how much diésel per hour do this engines consume at 1800RPM that can help me out please. Will be very appreciated.

My 3QM30 uses about .75 to .8 gallons per hr at my cruising speed which is 6.2 kgs at 2300 RPM.

Egad. There are a lot of things I don't like about my Volvo. But it is very efficient. 0.6 at ~6 kts, and 0.4 at about 5kts.

Thanks! That is very helpful. For how long Will you run your engine at 2300RPM? I am planing on running it for a few days, wind looks mellow on the forecast around the area for the next week.

2300RPM is my cruising speed which I will run all day. I can go to 2800RPM for an emergency one hour rating, but I never have. The prop is a fixed 3 blade 16 x 11 right hand wheel. Where is your planned journey taking you?

Diego: Your tank is 40 gallons. And you don't want to use the last bit because that might bring up crud from the tank. The old gauges are not very accurate. So, 35 gallons at Jim's speed is 43-44 hours. You might find it more efficient to run a little slower, although since I don't have a Yanmar, I don't know. You may need some jerry jugs of fuel. I can fit three 5 gallon jugs in my port cockpit locker. Some lash them to stanchions, which is ok as long as you do not encounter rough seas. If you carry jugs, carry a siphon or pump device. It is awkward to pour from a jug into the tank, especially if there is any sea.
 
I have a different motor but the same rules apply. On a few occasions I have motored non-spot for 5 days, with a brief stop before doing it again. (From Panama to San Francisco, upwind and almost impossible to sail) I carried 8 jerry cans with me and refueled while underway. I slow to 5kts when I make a long trip like that. It's easier on the engine and is a lot more fuel efficient. A displacement hull gets lot less efficient the faster you go. It takes about twice the HP to move at 6 kts vs. 5kts.

How many miles are you planning? Will you be able to sail at all? Bring at least 1 jug of fuel as an emergency in case you run it dry.
 
Thanks all of your answers! I am sailing back to my home island of san Cristóbal in the Galápagos.. The weather looks fine for the most part but for sure ill have to motor at least 1/3rd of the trip. I am taking 95 galons of diésel which is a lot!! I prefer sailing of cours, but happy to finally have a working engine. I am currently in panama and heading south in a few hours. It Would be nice if any of you have some extra time and send some weather report while me and my Girl are out there, planing to sail Just south of Malpelo island and then Head towards Galápagos.

Are you headed to Columbia or Ecuador first? It looks like you could hug the coast along the Columbian boarder and sail in lighter but sailable winds, then near Ecuador make a right turn and have a fast easy beam reach to Galapagos. More milage, but much easier than a direct route.
 
Hello friends!
We ended up making 9 days trip from las perlas islands at the golf of Panamá with a 30hr stop over on malpelo, then headed south to find the S trade winds and tack straight to Galápagos. It wad a nice jurney, thanks again for all the suport. Im sharing a picture of Pepe on his moring in san Cristóbal island
