Shurflo fresh water pump

actigner

Alan C. Tigner
My freshwater system will only deliver water when the pump is
running. Also the pump nevers shuts off by itself. Once you
turn it off at the switch there is no water at the faucet.
There are no apparent leaks. Shouldn't the pump build pressure
in the tanks or does it run each time the faucet is opened and I
have a bad switch. Thanks for any help.

Robert. Unless you have an accumulator tank, the pump will kick on when ever you open a spigot. The hot water may run for without the pump because the hot water tank act as an accumulator tank also. The pump should turn off when you close the spigot. The pump may be allowing water to leak back into your tank.

<div>One of the things that bit me (and made me feel a bit blond)was to open the valve to a hand pump at the galley sink and then try and use the pressure system. The open valve to the hand pump let enough air leak that the system would never come up to pressure. In my boat there are three valves under the galley sink. One for each of the tanks (one forward, one amidships) and an additional valve that allows the hand pump to be used. The latter must be closed to get pressure water.

<div>Robert,It may also be a busted seal (internal to the pump)ie you may need to repair or replace the pump. Incidently Don Cacey has a good article on trouble shooting onboard water systems in the latest Sail magazine.Good luck,Vic C.
