Salon table "legs"

Warren Holybee

Active Member
My boat is missing the "legs" that support the leaves for the salon table. I'd like to see a picture of what it looks like.

I was just going to start doing some varnish work including the table legs. Each leg is 27 9/16" long. They are 1 3/4" x 1 3/4" in section with the corners chamfered to form a octagon. The bottoms have a leather pad glued on so as to not scratch the floor. The stud is a 3/8" x 16 thread to screw into the socket under the table leaves. Let me know if you need more.

Thank you. Were there different configurations of this table? I don't think I have a socket under the leafs. I was picturing something that was hinged to the base/center part that swings out. It looks like there are some screw holes there where a hing might have been. I will have to take a closer look when I am at the boat next.

Warrern, would you post pictures of your table, screw holes? Mine looks exactly like the images Jim posted.

What model and hull number is your boat? It seems Morgan did things differently as the years progressed. What was done on earlier boats was changed on later models. My boat is a 1978, hull#53, model. If you touch base with those who have boats built near yours, you may find a similar table leg.

So you know what I saw, here is the picture. But it turns out I think mine should have the same legs as you guys. It was too dark under there for me to see the screw hole before, but on closer inspection, it is there just like yours. Thank you Jim for the dimensions. It will be easy to fabricate some new ones.

I see from your photo that you have the hidden compartment in the table base. That did not come from Morgan. Dave Buckley, from 382 "Sayonara", who is a Naval Architect, told me about that hidden space. Neatly holds a few bottles of rum. Our table legs do double duty. The port leaf of the table is almost alway up. The stbd side is rarely used. The leg for the stbd side is used to support a table in the cockpit attached to the pedestal guard. We also have a rack in the hanging closet opposite the head to store the legs when they are not being used.

Tony, that is what I had envisioned before I saw the screw hole on the underside. Not sure what it's called. My Morgan is hull #256, 1981 model.

Yes, you are right. I see it now. The top of his table looks custom made, not factory made. A nice job too.

It is actually stock. Mine is a 1983 384 hull#35. The swing out triangular leg is on both sides.
below a photo of it opened on both sides.

Yes, just the other day I was noticing the same stock tabletop on Rick Noddin's 384, Xanadu.

And I never noticed before that the starboard leaf is wider (by about 6 inches) than the port leaf, even on my 382.
