Sailed South of Key West Today

tfrere

Thomas McNulty
No, not on my M382. I met close friend here who had sailed his Pearson 365 from the New Orleans to the keys. Makes me want to move my boat to some area of clear water.

Tom ,Come on down there is always room for a Morgan .
This is Morgan country !
Lee Tarpon Springs 4 miles north of Clearwater !!

Tom: if you want clear water head down to the Caribbean. You will find water where you can see down 40 feet. And a great place to sail.

hey wait for me..... Im in Houston and i too just sailed on a Pearson 365 Ketch to ... NOLA.

Blue water is what i am working towards..

Just putting it out there...planning a trip in spring to the Bahamas. Beautiful clear water there. I'm the only Morgan in the group, but all equal. Passport 40, Irwin 42, Hunter something....once there, lots of Morgans. Last time I was there, saw at least 10.

Let me know if anybody is interested in joining...

Chris , I'm interested in knowing more about the Bahamas trip . Lee & Rose Nicholas M 384 Tarpon Springs fl

Lee,

Still working on details and such. The majority of us would be leaving out of Jacksonville, Fl. But, as soon as we start getting things together, I will be happy to send details your way.

Chris

So would you spring from Ft lauderdale or if ya choose Marathon . The gulf stream straightens you out and you get on target easier ! Six of one , a dozen of another !!!! Than you Chris

That's still up for debate. The thing I'm working with is flying the admiral over to one of the islands where I can pick her up or she can get to the boat, that way we can maximize our time in the Bahamas.

So, not to dodge your question, possibly Ft. Lauderdale.

I will get the boat over to the Bahamas by myself, then we'll enjoy our time there, and we will probably leave the boat for a month afterwards, to allow me to go back to work briefly, then I will come back and return back by myself with the boat.

Lots of variables at this point, but open to any suggestions. I don't claim to know everything!

Chris , here is my e mail lhnstnick@verizon.net
What i know about the gulf stream If you leave further south the current helps you and boosts your trip. i have friends that have done this route.
from Marathon to Bimini is day One 2nd day Bimini to the great bank there is no protection here just shallow water. Third day check in at west end bahamas.
All weather permitting so if ya hit a front ya could be at Bimini for a couple of days for a weather window.
In Marathon the Coast guard comes on the radio early AM and gives a report of sea conditions. Lots of boats are bottled up there every day waiting to cross.. The coast guard tells you today the sea is rough and we do not recommend leaving port. If you leave port they tell you they will not respond to your may day ! That stops 90 % of the travelers. Groups go from 10-20 boats a day.
