Hi all,
I'm planning to pull my mast in the next few weeks for new standing rigging and while the mast is down I'd also like to address the shabby and bubbling paint on the mast.
I'd read that all Morgan 382 masts were anodized - is it more likely that the PO painted over the anodizing or is it possible this mast is un-anodized and has always been painted? There is also a possibility its not the original rig. The boom is a LeFiell and I believe the original ones were all Kenyon, however I can't see any difference from others' photos on the forum. Is there any identifying marking that would confirm the mast is original? Unfortunately I don't have much history on this boat.
I'd like to avoid dealing with paint again in the future and so my hope was to strip it back to its original anodized state or just bare aluminium. Anyone else been through this or have tips on this process? Given the bubbling I'm guessing any anodizing that was there may be in poor shape?
Best,
Fergus
