Old Friends and New

On our recently completed cruise from Long Island Sound up to New England, Bonnie and I where pleased to meet Old friends and New friends, While maneuvering for a mooring in Newport Harbor, RI, we were hailed from a boats we passed, "Hey Morgan". To busy at the moment to reply, we got settled on the mooring when a dinghy came alongside. The dink driver said he used to own a Morgan 382 and was glad to see ours. He said he was always on the Morgan Board and that their names were Tony and Lisa Carey. They sold the Morgan in the late 90s and moved up to a bigger boat to live aboard. The name sounded familiar and it took a minute to remember Tony from the early days of the board. Although we had never met face to face, we had many a great conversations via the board. Bonnie and I spent a couple of days with Tony & Lisa before moving on.

Later in the cruise we arrived for an eleven day stay at Block Island, RI. One morning we woke up to a Morgan 384 anchored alongside us. The boats name is "Morning Star". We dink over to say hello to the owners, John & Dawn Flanzer. Turns out they have been the owners for a couple of years now and that the previous owners had sailed the boat to Guatemala. "That wouldn't be the "Mary T" would it" I asked. It certainly would be, owned by Ken & Amy Curliechek, who we met in Florida some years ago. John and Dawn have done much to upgrade the boat and are living on board at the moment. We spent most of a week with them on Block Island.

The Morgan Board has been an incredible source of information about our boats and also a wonderful source of friendship over the years both online and in person.
I hope we will have the opportunity to meet up with more Morgan owners to share sea stories with.
