Has anyone changed their tach drive from the alternator to a
cable driven one? Seminole Wind is a 383 With a Perkins 4-108.
If so where on the engine is the tach drive and how do you
access it?
The tachometer cable connects on the upper right side of the 4-108 (facing the front of the engine.) My mechanic says that an electronic tachometer is a breeze. Your alternator needs an "AC tap" to run the tach. He says that you can have the AC tap installed on older alternators at a knowledgable tach shop.
Ed I,m going from an alt.driven tach to a mech driven one because of the instability of the alt. driven one and having to recalibrate when I change pulleys.
