M-38 Rendezvous in Maine, Summer 2000

barefoot

Scott J Brown
<div>As a preliminary announcement -- so that all of the East Coast
members can start thinking about making the trip -- three Maine
M-38 owners (Wiggins, Pervier, Reich) have decided to host a
sail-in/rendezvous next summer, probably in late July or early
August. We are looking for appropriate locations with adequate
dock space and by late spring will need to know who is coming so
we can make arrangements. The rendezvous will take place over
several days and may travel to a couple of locations. A post-
rendezvous group cruise along the coast will also be in the
offing. It should be WONDERFUL, so think seriously about making
the trip.Members who can't sail in may be able to join us if arrangements
can be made for shore-side accommodations or possibly a berth
aboard one of the boats. It also may be possible to charter a
boat (although not an M-38) in order to dock-up and sail with the
others.Further announcements will follow on the Bulletin Board and in
upcoming Newsletters. If you have any comments or suggestions,
please feel free to let us know.

Lenny,
Maine is lovely, we have sailed there. Maine is the furthest destination most sailors dream about, but never actually get there. It is 300 miles from Long Island Sound.
Why not split the difference, 150 miles, and rendezvous in Buzzards Bay, The Elizabeth Islands, The Vinyard, or Nantucket. I think that these destinations will bring together most of the M38 group sailing in the Northeast.
Just a suggestion, Larry

Larry -- Your idea for a rendezvous in eastern Massachusetts is a fine one but not what we had in mind. I think that we three Maine sailors would be OK if only the three of us show up -- that is, we intend to get together here in our home waters, and we are inviting other members to join us. We thought that such an invitation might be just the impetus some folks needed to head Downeast. I realize it's far, but, believe me, it's worth the trip!

Lenny,
You bet, it sure is worth the trip. I would encourage anyone who would like to go. If anyone would like some advice on how to make this sailing trip from the Long Island Sound area, I would be glad to talk to them. We made it home, from Penobscot bay to Mamaroneck in 52 sailing hours plus a 12 hour lay-over at the half way point, Hadley Harbor.

Sounds like a great idea. However, Maine may be a bit of a haul for people coming from the south, i.e., New York or New Jersey. What about someplace between Newport Rhode Island and southern Mass?

Great Idea! We can't sail there(will bring pictures), but would love to go. I travel to Maine on business regularly and would love to meet everyone and talk Morgans! Please let me know if it's a go.!!

<div>Ted -- I think if would be fine idea if someone wanted to organize a rendezvous in the area around Newport and Buzzards Bay. It's just that we M-38 sailors in Maine are going to hold our own little rendezvous and thought we'd invite anyone else who wanted to come. One possibility might be to coodinate -- have one in RI/Mass first, then do ours in Maine a week or so later. Those who wanted to hit both could make a real cruise of it. If there's someone who is interested in organizing things down there (RI/MA), let me know.

<div>Larry,If your interested in doing something informal for southern Mass. or RI, I would also be interested and willing to work with you in organizing. My schedule would require sometime in mid or late August. After spending this summer on the boat, I promised Marj a trip to Alaska which looks like it will be in mid July 2000.Ted

Ted,
Sounds like a great idea, but a bit early for planning. I would be happy to call....perhaps, Kingman Marine and some other places looking for a group price for slips and/or moorings. If we have enough boats we can plan a race from one harbor to another and barbecue after. Anyway, I am getting ahead of myself. I think we should get back to this rendezvous idea in early March, when most people are ready to make serious plans for the summer.
