Hey Steve,
I've looked for you when in GCS marina several times, but looks as if we don't happen to be there at the same time. I'm still interested in taking some measurements from Arrrgh's rudder, but naturally would want to have you there at that time. If you are inclined, please e-mail me at ibruths4th@outlook.com. It would be good to get in touch again!
Best regards,
Rick Noddin

Hi, Rick.

I'm currently in Houston and won't be back at GCSM for a while. However Arrrgh-O is in Canada (the Long Term Storage yard that abuts HWY 16 there at Green Cove Springs Marina).

If you don't already have access to Canada, I can drop Crystal a line and let her know it's OK for you to take some measurements of the rudder.

I don't know if you're following Jeff Lovett's exploits with his 382, Pilgrim, but he is currently going thru the exercise of building his own 383-384 rudder. You can find more info on Jeff's blog, here:

Rick,

Of course, you can always order one from

Bob "Al" Walker
Foss Foam Products of Florida, Inc.
http://www.newrudders.com
PH 352-529-1104
Fax 352-529-1106

Foss Foam has the original 383 rudder mold and made all of the production 383 rudders.

I believe a new Foss Foam 383 rudder is (a very expensive) $2264.00 plus shipping.

Arrrgh-O's previous owner retrofitted one of Foss Foam's 383 rudder. However, I noticed that the 'gap' between the top of the rudder and the hull seems excessive (and Bob 'Al' agrees). Also, it appears that the gudgeon is not square to the trailing edge of the skeg. They can fix it, of course.

Here's a picture of Arrrgh-O's 383 rudder:

In addition to the wealth of information already available on this website, outstanding additional information, details (and pictures!) is also provided by, e.g., Jeff Lovett.

Thanks to all for maintaining the wonderful Morgan 38x resource that this website is!

(I'll be quiet, now.)
