Lazerette do over on a 384

stnick

lee nicholas
For years i hated my lazerette . a hole to drain water ! ? Why not try and stop the water in the first place.
I got my sander with a cutting blade and saws all and cut the old Fiberglass frame out. I made the whole wider so i can fit the large bumpers in . The back curve follows the curve of the stern.
I glued up some IPE boards for a new lid and decided to open it different. Now it opens to starboard and I have not yet figured out a latch. It will come to me . Her are some pictures

Good job Lee. Much more functional indeed.

I thought about using the wet locker as the propane locker. Widen the opening and use a plastic door of the appropriate size sold at WM. I would need to complete the sealing off the locker compartment as it is not now due bilge hose and exhaust hose which I am planning on moving to a different location. I have purchased the fiberglass propane tank at WM with the idea of using the wet locker for which the drain hole will act as the vent, provided that I can completely seal off the compartment.

I just took a standard BBQ propane tank repainted with rust proof primer and used epoxy paint than i purchased a tank cover and strapped it to the port corner of the stern rail .
For me i needed to stand on the door to exit the boat by its ladder . So all new steps and top all made from IPE wood . They build docks out of this stuff in florida . Looks like teak !! Harder alot harder . My new hatch is one inch thick !
I would have second thoughts of a plastic door from Worst Marine ! The sun may eat it , in time. Good luck John

Im looking at Marinepartsdepot.com for cabinet hardware SS T handle 19.89 or should I go larger? I just want a flush latch , I dont require it to lock
