Holding Tank Indicator Light

My holding tank 3/4 Full Warning light is apparently not working as we filled the tank this past weekend and the light didn't come on to warn us. I checked the bulb and it is OK. Have any of you experienced this problem? How did you fix it? In advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think I mentioned this somewhere slse on this page a while ago. The design on Vixen(38-2#74) light is such that it must fail over time. The wire leads lead thru a plastic plumbing fitting in the bildge. My leads slid thru the goop Morgan had applied and broke. This also allowed water to enter the tank from the bilge and fumes to escapeto the water in th bilge. If your design is like mine you can access it thru the dust bin. Good luck, another hard job.

my light hasn't worked for years, from what the previous owner says. I have been hesitant to lean over and try to remove the fitting from the tank, for fear of creating even worse problem--eg. stripping or breaking a fitting. Perhaps installing a new fitting in a new place might be easier, but I hve put this job off too.

Use an oaken bucket. That will solve your light problem.

I have a Tank Watch indicator on my 383 and have had no difficulty removing/reinstalling it during storage. It is mounted on a 4" plug just like the ones on the water tanks.

<div>I solved this problem ('79 M382 #188) by replacing the old monitor and probe with a new unit supplied from Lewis Marine. This unit has to be modified to work below bilge water level, by sealing the two wire harness and top cover area of the probe. I used surgical tubing to surround the wires and sealed it with epoxy. I've had no problems since, however the dc circuit can only be used momentarily to check the level.. Otherwise the constant current flow will erode the probes.
