Fixture in the head!

hansedgar

Hans-Edgar A. Haugen
The overhead fixture in the head is fried and needs to be replaced, preferably with LED-.
Any of you done this, if so, where should I find such a replacement?
And while I am asking for help on that matter, I might as well solicit help regarding the battery pack under the quarter berth: (the more I search for batteries, the more confused I get!!) What brand AGM's will fit to get aproxible 500 Amps? Or maybe 600 A's!

Although I didn't replace the head flourescent, I did replace the galley and main cabin flourescents, with a brand called "Thin Light", I believe. Didn't look into LEDs, but there must be something out there.
Regarding the batteries, your best bet is to talk to a battery expert, and you'll never get experts to agree. It all depends on how often you use the boat, when you run the engine, what you run off the batteries (and when), your charging system, whether you have solar/wind generators, etc... There's lots of variables, and not a lot of clarity around battery manufacturing standards, unfortunately.
Be aware that you'll need to ensure that your AGM battery charging system is a three-cycle, or "smart" system, otherwise you'll cook the very expensive AGMs in no time.

Thank you, Matt, apreciate your information, wich enabled me to find the right ballast for the fixture in the head!
As for the house battery bank, I am going offshore, first in the Carribean, then off to Norway! That is where I am from and know the coastline intimately. (I had a 31' coastal fishing boat there after I retired from crabbing in thr Bering Sea). Lets put a flotilla of Morgan 38' together and raid the Norwegian coast!!
So; therefor the need for more Amps.
There will be 2 Cuyocera 135 on top of the bimini and either a KISS wind gen. or an Air Breeze.
I do treashure this Morgan site!

I put an LED in my master head shower. It is awesome. It cost around $20 in Georgia. I have starting replacing all my lights with LED.
