East coast winter problems

<div>My girlfriend is interested in moving to the Northern East coast.
She has possible job opportunities in Maine and Cape Cod. I've
heard that boats have to be pulled out of the water over there
during the winter, because of ice. Right now we live in Texas
and have never had to deal with this.
I've also heard that there is some kind of baloon liner that
can be floated around the hull to keep the ice off.
I'm wondering just how long I won't have access to my boat,
especially since I am currently living aboard. I'm also
wondering how much of a production this will become each and
every year. Any info is good info.-Tim

I sail in Maine and my boat is actually in the water four months/year - June through September. The earliest anyone goes in is early May and the latest coming out is perhaps mid-November. No doubt the season is a little longer on Cape Cod. Bubble systems can be used to be sure the water around your boat doesn't freeze and are sometimes used around Portland but not further north/east to my knowledge. Unless you're one tough fellow, you won't be interested in sailing here during the winter months! The summer, however, makes up for it.

<div>Thanks for the info, Lenny. As it turns out, we're going to stay in Texas now for another year or so. I appreciate your response. Thanks again,-Tim
