Cruising weight

cavale

JIM & MARGE HUTCHISON
"Dana", my 1978 382, hull # 53 was launched last Friday. The pressure scale on the Travellift put her total weight at 21,000 lbs. George, the yard owner, says that number is accurate to within 150lbs either side. At the time she was lifted she was completely loaded with all my cruising gear, 90 gal fresh water, 40 gal diesel, 250ft 5/16 G4 chain on a 35lb CQR, 2 additional anchors with rope/chain rodes. The only things not on board were about 1/2 of the normal foodstuffs we carry and the crew. I thought this might be of some interest.
If anyone is going to be sailing on or near the western end of Long Island Sound this summer, call or e-mail. We'd love to meet and raft up. 516 437-6107 or Saildana@aol.com

<div>Jim. Thanks for the information. If you should ever get a chance, I would appreciate knowning what Dana's draft is at this displacement (or an estimate when you measure her).Jay

She still sits on her original waterline marks, even with all my cruising junk on board. I've never taken the time to actually measure her exact draft but it certainly is greater than the advertized 5'-0". The 5'-4" number posted recently would seem to be more realistic.

At 21,000lbs the waterline should be different than that of a loaded cruising vessel and it will sail differently. I know that mine does.
