Charlie 38/34 Center Board Question

captrob

Robert Cohen
<div>A friend of mine owns a late 60s Charlie Morgan 34. Last weekend
during a race the center board cable snaped ( the cable took out
the blidge pump wires and he almost sunk but that's another
story). When the cable snaped the sudden impact on the
cable return spring broke it also.He has not been able to find a replacement return spring do any
of you folk have any idea where he might find a source for a
return spring? Any ideas for substitues? Thanks,Vic C.

VIC: I have a CM 38. I don't know what you mean by a "return spring". Maybe the 34 is different than the 38, because I have no spring involved with the CB. Have had my CB out of the boat 2 or 3 times and only the cable was in evidence. Unless you are talking about the spring that was attached to the board indicator in the cockpit. I removed that back in 1981 because it was a pain in the a--.It never did effectively indicate how far the board was down unless it was all the way down. I count the number of cranks going down and up to tell how far the board is down and if the boat is balanced I'm happy. JH
