Centerboard Pennant Attach to Cable?

Good day,

I just drilled out the old cable and resin from my centerboard pennant. What would be the ideal way to reattach that cable to the penant? Is there a method to the madness?

Would this be a good place to trade a life raft for a wind vane or 3/8 bb chain?

Thanks,

Joseph

Hi Joseph, I didn't even realize the Charley Morgan 38s had a centerboard until I saw your post. Hopefully one of our CM 38 owners will chime in.

And yes, you're welcome to post your 'trade' offer on this site. Probably best as a separate thread.

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Joseph, there is a lot of info in the archives on the M-38 centerboard including 4 pdf files of diagrams and procedures, just search "centerboard"
It sounds like you have the epoxy filled ss tube with the cable running thru it, if so I don't know how you could reattach the cable. It would be better to make a new assembly. Get a new ss tube feed the cable thru it and fill the tube with epoxy. However if you are in salt water you will probably have a corrosion problem. My cable would corrode where the cable exits the epoxy after one season so I replaced the ss tube with a delrin rod and spliced a vectran rope pennant to the delrin rod. I covered the vectran with a dacron sleeve with bottom paint to protect it from chafe and barnacles. After 3 seasons it's still good.

good luck, Bill
