Autohelm 7000 new install

kduffy

Kevin Duffy
I just installed a Autohelm 7000 .The best place to mount the
drive unit is on the aft bulkhead behind the starboard quarter
birth.Buy using a .25 in plate of Aluminum mounted to the
bulkhead. You don't loose any space .But I'm having alittle
trouble finding a place to mount the Flux gate compass.I tried
to mount it under the seat but I think the fuel tank throws it
off.Any suggestion?

Our autopilot (a B&G unit) compass is located on the aft bulkhead inside the hanging locker opposite the head door. That's where it was when we bought the boat. Works fine.

I will be installing a ST6000 and would like the details of your effort (especially pictures). Did you use a tiller arm? What brand (I assume Edson) and what specs?

I would think under the sette in the main saloon or in the hanging locker would be good. The fuel tank shouldn't bother because it's a non-ferous(sp?) metal but being that close to the engine is not a good idea.

<div>The Edson arm is just fine.I sent you a detailed e-mail let me know if you need any more information. Thanks, Fred
