anchor locker drains

bschnur

Barry Schnur
My anchor locker up forward has two tiny drains that always seem
to plug up when it rains, then the locker fills with water.
Those darn drains are way too small and long to pass the dirt and
"stuff" that seems to accumulate up there. I've thought of
retrofitting larger tubes or installing a large drain connected
to a through hull. Has anyone dealt with this and have a
recommendation?

I have found the best and simpliest answer is to:
1. Have a washdown
2. When washing the boat, have the upper chain locker
open and high-pressure the openings of debris.

These two holes are actually copper tubes. Get a one inch diameter hole saw ( it needs to be a deep one ) and a drill bit that will just fit in the tube. Use masking tape on the area of the hull that the hole saw will be cutting through.
Drill from the hull towards the locker. After the holes are made use one inch stainless steel pipe cut to the right lenght. Using West System epoxy and high density filler epoxy the pipe in place. Use 5200 on the outside between the hull and the pipe. Use a dremil tool and some epoxy to fair the inside of the locker. I and another 382 owner I know have done this.
