A scary photo

While sitting on a mooring in Mamaroneck Harbor, NY, the boat next to me had this visitor to his masthead. That's one expensive place to roost.

Wow, great photo. Did you capture this image? The perspective appears to be from close to the same level as the other masthead.

We had an osprey attempt the same maneuver to our wind instrument in FL. Fortunately the bird dropped the vane onto the deck.

Further incentive to consider an ultrasonic masthead wind instrument...

Thanks. I took the photo from the cockpit of my boat. On our last journey south, our wind instruments had stopped working when we arrived in Florida. B&G asked me to remove the masthead boom and to take it to their repair guy in Ft Lauderdale. When I unplugged the boom at the masthead, the five pins in the plug were broken off. Because the plug has a key way to prevent rotation, we figured the only way it could have happened was a large bird sitting on the boom saw a fish in the water and took off exerting a large torque on the boom. A mere $600 later all was well again. I love those birds, but I wish they would find somewhere else to roost.
