Hi Jim, I went with the Garmin 40 Reactor with the Garmin B Compact Linear drive. Total cost was around $3500. I mounted it in the under helm seat locker area, port side. So far I like it, have not put many hours on it yet.
I am close to buying a new AC for my boat and need to determine a good location. Since it needs to cool both the V-berth as well as the main cabin I think I am limited to installing on the Starboard side, unless there is a way to run a 4" duct hose behind the head?
If anyone has pictures of a...
Hey Cody, I went with the Garmin Reactor 40 mechanical retrofit and the class B ram. Love it! Easy to install and works great. Price was $1000 less than B & G. I can help you with installation tips and best location for the ram when you're ready. Good Luck!
I am not sure if this has been covered in an earlier thread so I wanted to mention in case anyone else had this issue. My lids on both water tanks are cracked and leak occasionally. It took me a bit but I found a replacement.

Hi Terry, I would have to measure to be sure, was just an estimate from the "water up".....I would say it is definitely not any less that that. Next weekend when I am at the boat I will measure. Thanks for the compliment on the workmanship.
I'm in St Pete FL---I have a 6000 BTU window AC mounted in my companionway. It works very well and keeps it around 77 in the 95+ degree heat of the day. In the evening it will freeze you out! Its a cheap option but a pain to step over every time you want to go in or out. My next project is...
Hey Jim, I added a false floor to mine and drilled a hole on the Starboard side about 10" above the water line which gave me plenty of depth inside the locker. I have never had an issue with water coming in. You can add a clam shell cover on the outside if you want added peace of mind. Tilt the...
Many thanks for the great input Warren, John, and Richard. I have decided to go ahead and add the additional support with a pillow block bearing as my tiller arm will be shorter than the quadrant. This will cost less than $50 in materials and a little labor so it might be worth it in the long run.
I found a pic of a Morgan owner that installed this pillow block bearing on the rudder shaft prior to installing a linear drive ram auto pilot. Any thoughts on why this might be necessary? I am ready to install a ram autopilot on my boat and would appreciate any comments on this.
Great start!
You may need to replace your forward bulkhead if it is rotten. I had to do it on my last 382 and on my current 383. If it seems solid, make sure to add some glass to better protect the wood from that wet environment.
I need to purchase a bronze tiller arm today for my below deck auto pilot and am not currently near my boat to measure. Does any one happen know the diameter of the top of the rudder post that protrudes above the quadrant? I think it is either 1.75" or 2" but not sure.
