It's A pretty quick job with a grinder. The hardest part was reaching in behind the engine because I'm fat. Mine didn't have that big mound of fiberglass like some do. Whenever I have the boat hauled for paint I change out something. Now everything below the waterline is new
Just Finished installing radar post and dome on transom now looking for a best place to locate monitor. I'm not sure if I want it on the helm or downstairs.
I was hoping to get some thoughts from people on were they located it and pros and cons of different locations .
Thanks john
I just did my last thru hull this year. I have been putting it off for a long time because it's too hard to get to. (Or I'm to fat) so when I pulled the boat this year for bottom paint I did it. Grinder with flap wheel, west system with silica, fiberglass board.
John those photos appear to be on a raw water cooled 3QM .3QM fresh water cooled would have another pulley for the fresh water pump to the left of the alternator. I don't think this configuration would work well with four pulleys
Lee I have been using my iPad for a lot of years. When they came out with the bad elf (bad elf picks up GPS and sends it to iPad anywhere ) bought a boat in Florida was heading to Antigua through Bahamas forgot my garmin in Boston. Bought the bad elf $100. had it overnighted And used the iPad...
If you're in the water just look at the stuffing box. Make sure it's dripping every few seconds. I forget what it supposed to be one drip every 3 to 5 seconds . I like to tighten mine up so it only drips when in gear (compass marine) has a good write up on it and they say only a few drips...

I'm on the same page is Terry and Jim. I'd also be concerned about how far this rot goes and if he's wrong about anything else. There's a lot going on in the back of the boat torpedo tube's, engine vibration, exhaust ,rudder, chain plates. Look it over good. And good luck
John
Welded this up out of 1/4" 6061 aluminum now I'm afraid the drop tube is too close to the side where the hull v's in and may try to offset it too the middle what do you think. Also what size battery cable are you running to it.
Thanks John Mcdonagh
John i'm tackling the same project right now going down to the boat today to see if the bracket i made will fit up then line up the windlass I'll send some pictures they won't be as nice as your work
Thanks John
OK this is what I did. Because of the battery banks.that need to be sorted out. And I need to keep this project moving forward. I installed a dickinson p1200. I ordered it at 3 o'clock in the afternoon I was on my doorstep at 9:30 am the next morning. Installed it a few days later. It only took...
Dave I have a bus heater I took out of my last boat and have not installed it thinking a Dickinson p1200 would be all I needed. But that doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe diesel drip heater with more btu's
Thank you all for the information. Lots of good stuff. I'm going to look closely to see what space and routes I can use. Both Mark and Jim's systems seem to be the warmer way to go. I have to look in to the power consumption like terry mentioned. At this point I have two 12v batteries one...
I'm thinking of a Dickinson p1200 Propane. To hang out a little longer in the season.( New England)
What have others done? I like the safety features. Does not use cabin air. But will it be warm enough to make the boat comfortable. I was not sure about diesel because can't find a location to...
