Warm Food Bin

Bob Clark
Southerly is M382 #155. I refer to the food bin as the large top
loading opening to port of the sink and f'wd of the stove.
The hot water heater was installed under this bin. While powering
the hot water heater gets warm and heat rises into the food bin,
warming what ever is in it. We open the cover while under
power and it helps.
The food bin is constructed of plywood sides with a removable
floor for access to the top of the water heater. I have thought
of wrapping the heater with insulation, and insulating the floor
of the bin. My questions are: Is this bin constructed differently
on any of the other M382-3-4's? Is the hot water heater located
in a different place, if so where?
Thank you,
Larry

Our original heater was an American something or other. It never gave adequate hot water unless powered for hours. I replaced it with a 6 gallon Raritan a number of years ago.It heats water fine and is insulated. The location was and is as you discribed. I tore apart the American (intended for campers I'm sure) and its element was about 4" long. Happy Sailing

I also have a Raritan 6 gal. It seamed to work just fine when I bought it. As an experiment I wrapped and covered the top of it in a fiberglass water heater blanket that I bought at a home supply retailer. The improvement was negligible.
