Starbord Bowrollers

For those that might be interested, JTR (813)321-6321 is the S/S
shop in Florida that made original bowrollers for M38#. They are
still in business and have the original jigs and they can be
reversed to make a matching roller for one side or the other
(port / starboard). The prices he quoted for single orders and
priced per unit are $350 for one, $300 for two or $275 for four.
So if there is a local group that have the same needs and can get
together, there are some economies of scale. The shop indicated
that current lag to delivery would be about two weeks.
 
<div>I for one would be interested in obtaining one, or even both port and stbd sides as my 382 hull#165 has no bow rollers at all w/e of the one I installed. I have no idea why there were none on my boat (as I have seen them on other 38X's) unless bow rollers were an available option when these boats were built.
What insite can other owners provide on this matter of rollers/no rollers?Fred

<div>Fred,The "Oconee" is M-382 hull number 4. I am the second owner. She has only one bow roller (port side). The roller appears to be coustom built and probably added after purchase although there is no way to be sure. I for one would like to know what other M-38x owners have done for anchor handling and storage systems. Hurricane Bonnie has moved anchor handling, storage, windlasses & cleats a lot higher on my priority list but that's another story....Vic Copelan

I have a port roller, which is a pretty good system--seems to be original. My only complaint is that the 45 lb CQR I carry does not fit wquite as snuggly as I would like. Anyway, if a group decides to go for economies of scale--that is if we can get four folks, which brings the price into my range--I would very much like a starboard roller, assuming it is the same as my port--that is, a big roller with a member that bends down over the bulwark so it is bolted not only on the top cap rail but also on the bent part. I guess that may not be clear, but I hope you know what I mean.
 
I would very much be interested in purchasing a starboard bowroller as this has been on my needs list for some time. I havn't had any luck finding a fabricator to make one here in Mobile. Is there anyone that lives in the area of this fabricator that could co-ordinate the ordering. The price seems reasonable if we can get four or more together on a purchase.
 
My hull #9 384 has a port roller and because of the windlass I'm installing I would be interested in a starbord roller. I take it that it would have to be welded in place?

 
<div>the white rabbit is m 382 #205. we are the second owners. former owners dr. clint semels and his wife marlene of ny ny. we have a starboard bow roller that is a stock item. it is a mirror image of the standard port unit. it has the flange that forms to the inside of the toerail. perhaps the plans for the starboard roller is still in the morgan files.if anyone runs across a port side unit i would be interested in knowing about it as we liveaboard on the hook and i need more ground tackle handling ability.

This is a long time coming. We had talked about this subject on the BB before. I wish this had been known then. I went out and bought 2 off-the-shelf rollers, 1 for a 35lb CQR and 1 for a Bruce. I haven't installed them but will be shortly. I would have gone for the double setup mentioned. It's about the same price as the store bought ones. To boot they're made for the boat vice the store bought. I certainly like the flange that folds over and fastens to the verticle wall inside. Now that makes sense.

 
I am intertested in getting a starboard roller. While all of us are not local, I think we might be willing to send a check for more than the quoted price and have them ship to different locations. The checks could either go to you or the manufacturer. At this time of the season time is not of the essence. Please Let me know how things progress.

There is a small triangle that is screwed into the bow just off the stem piece, but that was a worthless effort anyway. Each roller is separate and away from the stem piece on top of the caprail. Three of the boats in the order are here in town and all port rollers are the same, so I guess we are taking a leap of faith that the new rollers are the same just with reversed. I spoke a length with John at JTR and have a good feeling that we are both on the same page. They made the original port rollers that are on our boats now. He also said that over the years that Morgan owners have contacted him to make opposite side rollers. He said that it is just a matter of reversing the 'jig' and not a big deal.I ordered (4) starboard rollers from JTR Thursday and mailed the check on Friday 9/4. They will probable not start work on them until middle of this week. He said production time was two weeks. Here is their address and phone number. Maybe you can get in on the same order sequence. The place is in Gulfport Fla. just below St.Pete. The deal that he cut with us for on order of four is if you send only half the money he will make the rollers and send them COD. The shipping would be $15.00 each unit and the COD charges is $9.00. OR you can sent the whole amount ($275) + $10.00 a unit for shipping and he will do the rest as long as all in the order are sent to one address. </div>

I Just contacted John Dudinsky at JTR. He was kind enough to allow me to add onto Steve Bolins (RE:Seatreat) order and will drop ship direct to me in GA. He did indicate that the triangular brace to the stemhead would have to be adjusted or shimmed due to the handbuilt characteristics of the hull. Any additional orders should be placed within the next 10 days to allow this single production run. Regards, S/ Paul

Bow rollers should be designed for a particular anchor, and now because it matches what is there. I took the old roller off and had a custom one built for a 45# CQR and a 33# Bruce. The result looks better and is certainly more functional.

I just received the new rollers from JTR today. The rollers are a mirror immage of the port roller. And, they fit (at least on SeaTeat) to a tee. All the people in this order that have seen theirs agree. JTR did a quality job and did it in the time frame indicated. We all are more than pleased.

Received my new bowroller. The workmanship is great and it looks like it will fit perfectly. Thanks to SeaTreat for a great job in getting this all arranged!
 
<div>SeaTreat -- I own a 382, #179, teak caprail, etc. I'm very interested in both a starboard and port bowroller. Do I understand corectly that these rollers were designed explicity for our boats and will accomodate most if not all anchors, including Danforth and plow types? Would I order through you?
