I am looking for a clean well maintained 38. I prefer a boat on
the west coast, I live in So.Ca. but will look elsewhere. This
will be a boat I keep for an extended cruising period so it is
very improtant that I get it right. I have heard nothing but good
things about the 38 series overall. So if you know of someone
send me a message. Thanks

Steve, I'm in the process of buying a 382 after a lengthy search. The best resource I found was reading the bulletin board entries on this site. Specifically, I learned to look at the mast step, fwd shroud chainplate attachment and aft head bulkhead tabbing as potential trouble areas in 382s. They're great boats, and having a collective record of experience like the group is invaluable in picking the right one. Good luck!

Thanks for the insight. I have spoken to Jim McIntyre as weel and he has given me some great tips too. Thanks Again

You may have to leave the west coast to find one, although there are a few in San Francisco and Seattle area. One or two were for sale in the Seattle area fairly recently and they come on the market up here every few months. Best way I learned when I was looking: subscribe to Latitude 38 in San Francisco and 48 North in Seattle. that way, you see the ads up and down the coast pretty much. I also subscribed to Soundings from the East Coast, thinking if a boat were cheap enough I would ship it. Nearly bought an Alberg 37 that way, but luckily I ended up with a 382 in Seattle. Good luck.
