PSS Dripless Shaft Seal

actigner

Alan C. Tigner
Another question. Who has installed PSS Dripless shaft seals
and are you happy you did. Based on a copuple of
reccomendations I'm having one installed and want to make sure
I'm not doing something I'll be sorry for.
Thanks
RCL

Robert: I installed a Lasdrop Dripless ShaftSeal4 years ago and couldn't be happier. Never have a problem. One of the great advances for boating were these devices. Don't know about PSS but I understand all that are on the market do the job. Jim Hudnut.

<div>I have one installed for the past 5 years. I love it.

Capt Bob: My LasDrop has a separate water supply tube, but I have never had a lick of trouble with it after my son put things straight. As I understand it the water is essential to lubricate and keep the shaft clean, but whatever--the damn things works great. JH

I have heard reports of two separate boats sunk when this dripless seal failed. They work well for a long time, apparently, but when they go, bad things can happen. Unlike the old fashioned packing which give plenty of warning, these devices seem to go out suddenly.

I had one for almost 10 years without major incident, but it never was truly dripless. I put one on my inboard ski boat, (high rpm) with a water feed and the bilge was nothing but dust bunnies. I think that the water injection is the way to go because it puts oxgenated water in the cutlass bearing and which reduces shaft corrosion and provides better lubrication
