PORTLIGHTS FOR CHARLEY 38

aurora

Jim McEntyre
Any information from an owner of a Charley 38 regarding the
replacement of the original ones would be greatly appreciated.
The rubber gaskets on my originals have weathered badly and are
commencing to leak. Most helpful probably would be an owner who
has one of the later built models because I am not certain the
lower hull numbers used the same parts and gaskets. My boat is
the last Charley built, hull number 79. If you have replaced them
please advise the make of the replacment port. Many thanks in
advance.

Sorry for not answering you earlier. I did the job on my Charley 38. I used the Hood opening port with the slanted spigot. I replaced all six. They were very expensive about $350 each. I had to remove the corners and about 1 1/2 inches for the new ports to fit. Cutting was the hardest part because I found a plastic between the inside and outside skin that was almost like cement. After I fought with this "mystery substance" on the first two I found that it could be removed with a hammer and a screwdriver and the rest went a whole lot easier. The job and the expense was worth it. If you have questions e-mail me as I dont get to the board that often.
Lots of luck if you do the job.
