<div>WE HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR PORTAL (WINDOW) SHADE COVERS FOR
PRIVACY AND PREVENTION OF SUN DAMAGE FOR MORGAN 38CC. WE'VE
FOUND ONLY ONE SUPPLIER ON WEST COAST, WHO WILL ONLY SELL WARES
THROUGH MORGAN ITSELF. HAS ANYONE HAD REASON TO REPLACE OR
CHANGE THEIR COVERS, AND WITH WHAT AND WHERE DID YOU FIND THEM?
REALIZE, WE JUST STARTING OUT WITH 92 M38CC HULL #1, AND JUST
BEGINNING TO BEGIN THE REFURBISHING PROCESS. TKS FOR YOUR REPLY,TERRY & JOANNE QUINN

Terry,
The portal covers we installed aboard our M382, "Aurora", are like heavy, pleated canvas and are from a company that supplies them to Catalina Yachts. If these are the covers you're referring to, we bought a pair for our big cabin windows through a marine interior decorator in Marina Del Rey. They weren't cheap, but they work really well.
I'm on my way to La Paz this morning, but if you need a name I can dig it up when I return in 2 to 3 weeks.

The JSI Catalog has marinized shades that work like typical window shades. See page 50 of the catalog or go to www.jsisail.com i have not used them. We now have a M383 but had a 1995 Catalina with the accordion type shades. They took less room than the JSI shades look like they do. The prices seem reasonable. Good luck and happy sailing.

TerryThis may seem a little different but we just purchased our 384. My wife measured the Portals and is making covers.
She has picked a fabric and is sewing elastic in a hem.
You just spread the elastic and place it around the portal.
Works great. They are pretty easy to make so she's making one set sheer for sun and one set for privacy. Did't cost much either.

We took a slightly different approach. We used the same material that covers our seats. We fashioned covers by sandwiching layers cut to fit the "glass" part of the port, over a piece of "stitch witchery" or some such stiff material. To this we have a small string with a velcro dot which attaches to a velcro dot on the top of the opening part of the port. They look great (lots of compliments). They are also easy to install, don't prevent opening, and cheap. We store them under a seat when not in use.
