I just looked at your port pictures. The ports do wonders for ventilation. I installed Hood SS ports in my CM38 three years ago.
My real question is how do I go about putting pictures on the board? Contact me here or at my e-mail address if you have a spare second to instruct me. MorganSloop@aol.com . I have all the scanners and the stuff I need to do it. I just don't know how. Capt Bob E

Cap't. Bob: Am very interested in the replacement of the ports in your CM38. Stella Maris is a CM38, hull#79. I have dickered around with replacing ports for several years and have not been able to find ports that come reasonably close to fitting the openings of the existing ports. I can get close on the smaller ones, but have not been able to find a manufacturer that made one adabtable to the larger ports. Stella has 2 larger ports on each side 7 X 26 3/4 (as I recall) Do you remember the sizes of the Hood ports you installed ? Does Hood even make them any more. Checking manufacturers listings for ports in various magazines and books I never found Hood as a port manufacturer. I would be very interested because after 27 years the ports on Stella look like hell, leak and generally detract from the appearance of the boat. Jim Hudnut

I installed six Hood S/Steel opening Ports into the smaller port holes. They have made a hudge difference in the quality of the air in the boat and they really look sharp. They were almost perfect fit except that the corners had to be rounded a bit. When I took out the old ports I found a cement type filler between the outside hull and the liner. I had a very rough time trying to use a jig saw until I got angry and took a chisel and hammer to the stuff. I cut the holes the proper size then and refilled the space with wooden strips. Four years and so far just one small leak.
The Hood Ports are quite pricy. I have seen others since that are less expensive and maybe I bought too soon before seeing and investigating the others. The Hoods and the others were being shown at the Annapolis Boat Show so they are still available. I bought mine from Marine Exchange (800) 888-8699 ask for Kevin. Tell him I gave the info to you and maybe if I do this enough he will reduce the price on the S/Steel CQR I covet.

Morgan 38For the large ports I had a piece of Lexon or some type of plastic cut and installed them against the outside of the hull with compound and screws. The only mistake I made here is that I threw out the alluminum inside frames. I am still trying to find a system that will fill that space and look good. Polish the old ones and reuse them.
