New Morgan 382 Owner - Sundog

Hello,
My wife and I are the proud new owners of Sundog, our 1980 Morgan 382. We have been crewing for the past 3 years throughout Mexico’s Sea Of Cortez and mainland Pacific Coast. I’m a part time engineer and my wife Is a full time designer. luckily with Starlink, we have been able to work remote and continue our passion of living on the water. Now we can do it in the luxury of OUR OWN BOAT!

Originally Purchased April 1980 by the first owner, the boat named Shelby-D, she was a fresh water boat, sailed on Lake Champlain, by the first and the second owner, who purchased her in 1988.
In September 1992, the second owner moved aboard and took Shelby-D from Lake Champlain down the Intercostal Waterway to Florida. They upgraded for full-time cruising and spent December 1992 to March 1993 in the Bahamas. In the spring and summer of 1993 they traveled back up the Waterway through the canals to Ontario. In October 1993 they headed back down to Florida to cruise the Caribbean.
The second owner developed health issues and sold the boat in May 1994 to the third owners.
The third owners had the boat trucked from Florida to San Diego, renamed her Interlude, and sailed and lived aboard her at Shelter Island. The fourth owner then purchased her in December 1999 and moved her to Marina del Rey.
From early 2000 until October 2005 the fourth owners did an extensive upgrade while cruising Interlude in Southern California waters. Interlude left Marina del Rey for Mexico in October 2005, joining the Baja Ha Hacruisers rally in San Diego. The rally finished in Cabo San Lucas in November 2005 and Interlude has remained in Mexican waters since. The fourth owners took interlude as far south as Huatulcoon the Pacific mainland coast and as far north in the Gulf of California as Bahia San Franciscito.
My wife and I, now the fifth owners, purchased Interlude this winter and renamed her Sundog. We are as happy as a pair of clams. She needs some work and some TLC, but who doesn’t. We are excited to share our upgrades and improvements as we go along. I’m planning on a complete solar and battery refit, new refrigeration, teak and brite work, … Perkins, stack-pack with lazy jacks, buff and polish, etc. etc.

Welcome!. I am in SF, and desperately trying to find some work that I can do via Starlink. I hope to join you there when that happens. I am jealous of those who have those opportunities.
I am a broadcast engineer with great technical skills, but all my work experience is hardware, and needs to be onsite. Outside of work I have learned and can do anything, but can't seem to get "the job" without the previous professional experience.

I notice a few things in your pictures. First, I really like your saloon cushions. I will be re upholstering mine soon, and want something with some shape, and less boxy. I'd also like to add some details instead of a solid color. I now have some new ideas.

Do you know your hull number? There was some reinforcement done to the mast step on some boats as part of a recall. It looks like yours have had that work done. That is isn't bad or mean there is a problem, it's just something I note, so I am curious of the hull number.

Lastly, I see a bobstay. Is there a bowsprit that isn't visible?

Thank you! I went to college and worked in SF for nearly 15 years, I love it. I am a product designer and most of my work is in CAD or digital blueprints, so I am very fortunate to be able to work remotely. I’m sure you will find “the job” soon enough.

The saloon cushion details are thanks to my wife’s collection of Mexican throw blankets. I can’t speak for the cushions themselves, but they are quite comfortable.

I am not at the boat at the moment, but I believe the hull number was in the 220’s if I’m not mistaken.

The previous four owners took great care of the vessel and made many many improvements and documented nearly everything. I know they installed a new LeFiell mast and boom and enlarged the rudder. As far as the Bobstay, they installed a stainless steel starboard anchor roller to have a dual bow anchor setup and single stern anchor setup for hurricanes. (I’ll post a picture below)

I can make a post of every upgrade if you think that would be of interest.

Congratulations on a great boat! I'm of the same mind as Warren, I noticed your cushions immediately too. Sonata's look nice but are "boxy" and uncomfortable to sleep on.
Your boat has some wonderful upgrades. And great history.
I too am planning to head for the Sea of Cortez sometime this spring if I can make it happen.
Welcome!
Mitchell

Thank you Mitchell, my wife and I absolutely love the Sea of Cortez. Thursday we will be crossing to Puerto Vallarta to continue our journey south into the Pacific. But plan to be back into the Sea in May where I plan to do an electric/solar refit on Sundog as well as give her the TLC she needs. Let me know if you make it down to the Sea of Cortez, it would be great to get some Morgan’s together!
