Medical Kit

Hi, At one time I had an online supplier of medical kits
marked. We are planning on living aboard in a year or so &
traveling the coast. I am starting the process of preparation.
Does anybody out there know that site. It listed three types of
medical kits. Depending on if you were weekenders or coastal
cruising or going around the world. If any body has any names
of sites please send share them with me. Thanks

Survival Technologies in Fla has medical kits for the offshore sailor and as I remember they are pricey. I used to have their catalog with prices but cannot locate now. Seems that they were in Lake Worth and have been purchased by another company. If you are familiar with the MOM emergency flotation devices---same company. Last summer I bought re-pack kits for my MOM and theinstruction sheet lists 800-525-2747 and 561-588-8500 as the telephone numbers. Jim Hudnut.

A medical kit never has in it what you want. It has in it what others think you need.
We went to a boat show and looked at kits. In the brocheurs they give a list of all the stuff that is included in the different types of kits. Take the broucheurs home and then pick and choose what you think you would need for the type of sailing you are going to do. Go to a drug store and buy what you need.. We found this method to be a lot less expensive also.

Try "First Aid Pak, Inc." for the kits. They produce several kits and they also have a geat first aid book that accompanies the kits.

I agree with Capt. Bob. I would consult with a Doctor that is a sailor and either a Medicine or Surgeon for advice on what to include. They could also write scripts for you since all lot of this requires a physician's okay. You should also obtain knowledge on how to deal with medical emergencies. Having the stuff is only a small part of medicine offshore.

The following list is the contents of the medical kit we carry aboard "Dana", our 382 #53. We do only costal cruising in the northeast and have found this fits our needs. My wife Bonnie is an RN so we sail with some medical knowledge to go along with the kit. Almost every thing in the kit is store bought locally. We had inspected the prepackaged medical kits but decided that they didn't fill our requirements for the amount of money being spent.
