Welcome to this website/forum for people interested in the Morgan 38 Sailboat. Many of our members are 'owners' of Morgan 38s, but you don't need to be an owner to Register/Join.
Hello all,
Just recently purchased my Morgan 382, 1978, Hull number 128.
I am trying to find a PDF or any type of file with he original owners manual.
I have looked thru old threads, and cannot find it anywhere.
This is a manual for a Morgan 41, circa 1978/1979. I have found it is almost identical in many respects to my 38-2, except for length (duh!), sail plan, and plumbing (the 41's had a second head). But note that when I got my 38-2, it was from the original owner, and he had made very few modifications or changes to the original boat. For that reason, the wiring and the plumbing were both easy to figure out.
If your PO had made significant upgrades, I'm not sure this source will help you much.
Could we perhaps create a resource folder like the Photo Gallery for documentation where we could have copies of drawings, manuals, etc. This would be easier to find than searching archives without knowing what key words to use.

great idea Alan & Cheryl. I have a complete 383 Owner's Manual and would be more than happy to post up to a folder for this.... most of my drawings are from the 382 plans as much of the systems/plumbing/etc. apparently did not change much if at all across the models. Or so it would seem!
i got my 384 manual on line here from one of you guys. i printed it to a disk . Took the disk to Staples and for short money they bound it. Now i have it all.
i'm very grateful thank you lee Nicholas/ Tarpon
I inquired about scanning the document at the local Staples Office Supply. They can/will scan it and place the PDF file on a usb drive for fifty cents per page. The 382 manual is 114 single sided pages. Thus the cost would be $57. This seems a bit steep to me.
I will seek other options. What price range are you willing to accept for scanning the manual?
Once scanned, I prefer the digital copy over the original three ring binder. I will be happy to send you the original hard copy plus the digital file.
Steve & Richard, I plan to take the manual with me during my holiday travels in hopes of finding a less expensive option for scanning. Will proceed with scanning the document if I find a reasonable price.
I just do not understand . I got my 384 manual here from you guys. Made a disk took it to Staples had it spiral bound for cheep ! No where near the 57 i have heard here?? What am i missing is that manual that much larger than the 384 manual ?
Merry Christmas to all and fair winds to you all.. Lee
Jeff,
thanks for all your effort. Id happily send you $20 or $25 for the files if necessary.
Theres no immediate urgency, so let me know if you come up with anything else, if not Steve Cundy and I will make arrangements to cover your expenses.

As a reference, this site should have all reference/specs materials, including manuals and drawings, posted as PDFs on the the Home Page, easily accessible to all. As Lee said, it's not not that complicated with "all-in-one printer scanners". I have posted 382 drawings, but manuals and other drawings would benefit everyone out there!
I didn't mean to take a project away from someone else but I had a little time over the holidays.
I scanned our M382 Owner's Manual using a desktop scanner. The I scanned most of the manual at 150 dpi to keep the file size manageable. I scanned the drawings at 300 dpi to improve legibility but alas, the manual is a copy of a copy and the overall quality suffers. Perhaps this can serve in the short term until someone else finds a manual in better condition.
I scanned each of the chapters individually so there are a total of 8 chapters plus a two additional pages. (122 total pages). The largest file is 6.6 MB so sending by email may be a problem depending on your email settings.
I would be happy to upload the files to the group but I think it would be best to create a folder for them. Admin: could you set that up?

I also have manuals for the Perkins 4-108 and Hurth transmission but I downloaded them online. I will search for the link.
I looked at the manual today and its just the perkins 4108 manual thats the one you guys put on line that i copied and went to staples with the disk. So i do not have the whole boat manual but i'm ok with that i have traces every thing now and understand how it all works together.
Got invited yesterday on my neighbors tartan 34 wow is she fast .. folding prop and all.. i was impressed.. Just out by anclote island.. I was smiling light wind but she did heel ! felt good to sail again..
I have the manual that came with my boat. It's in excellent condition considering the age. However, the manual is for a 383, and I have a 382. I'm pretty sure my boat was one of the last 382's, so I'm guessing that's how I ended up with the 383 manual.
Alan - I would appreciate it greatly if you could send me a copy of your manual as well. I'd like to see how the two manuals compare.
Hi Ken:
I can send it to you. Just need your email address.
I sent it to Jeff in 4 emails with attachments of 4.6, 4.7, 3.6, and 6.5 MB each for a total of 19.4 MB.
Leaving soon and would prefer not to send via cell phone network.

Hi everyone,
I started this thread a while back, and it looks like some of you were able to obtain a copy o the m382 owners manual.
I have still not been able to get a copy, so if anyone hear can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry all for not being able to send it individually to all. I don't have broad band network access right now and I did not want to send via cell phone. I had hoped that we could create a place on the Owners Group that we could post manuals and documents - upload once, so individuals could download as needed.
I don't know how to set that up.
Thanks Jeff.
Perhaps the site admin can create a documents folder (like the photo gallery) and move these and other info into it. It will be easier to find in the future.
I wish the quality had been better. Best of luck to all who use it.
For new Morgan 382 owners......I made these CD's of the owners manual and some other important documents a few years ago and just ran across them........anyone interested in one please email me with your info and I'll send you one.......captnstevepowell-at-gmail-dot-com
