Ice box dimensions

I am replacing my refrigerator compressor, does anyone know the cubit ft of the icebox, as originally built in to boat?

A close guess would be about 6 cubic feet. Figuring the box is 20x20x45 / 2 because it is more triangular than cube, / 1728 to convert from inches to feet, then round up. It might be as large as 7, but I doubt it. An exact figure is tough(unless you fill it with water or something), as it has complex compound curves.

There are basically only 2 compressors used by any manufacturer. The Secop BD35 and BD50. With a well insulated box, the DB35 is enough, but I would recommend the BD50 in either case.

Are you replacing the whole system, or just the compressor? If just the compressor, the connectors on the compressor will need to match, as there are a few types. If a whole system, there will be lots of differing opinions. Mine is to use the BD50 Compressor, and the largest evaporator that you can fit. I was surprised that the evaporator I wanted to fit, designed for a 14 cf fridge or 4 cf freezer physically didn't fit. So look at what is available and measure carefully.

Insulating the box properly will reduce power usage by about 75% or more unless you live in a cold area. It's big job, I am just finishing it up. It has taken 7 full days of work, and mostly all that is left now is redoing the Formica countertop.
