Combing boxes & cockpit speakers

<div>Hi,
We have a 1985, Morgan 384. This is our first season on her.
You've all been so helpful everytime I've written. My question
this time is about puting combing boxes in the cockpit. A
little nervous about cutting a hole into that fiberglass. Not
sure we really need combing boxes to put cockpit speakers in.
We have an area directly below the teak seat/stepup that leads
to the companionway. Below this seat/stepup there is a formed
indentation in the fiberglass. I'm thinking that a one time the
instruments would have been placed in this area. The first
purchaser placed the instruments all around the pedestal. We've
thought about placing the cockpit speakers here. They would be
out of the way and would not require us cutting into the sides
fo the cockpit. Question? Do any of you have cockpit combings?
Exactly where and what about cockpit speakers any ideas? Also we are planning to leave for the ICW in the fall of 2001.
Once we arrive in Florida we will be purchasing some type of
watermaker. Any ideas on types, styles, and posslible place to
put this watermaker? Would also like a water purifier. Would
appreciate any in put. Thanks so much for all your help.Sincerley,
Linda Graham

<div>Linda,On my 382 the previous owner installed a sealed opening inspection hatch oppsite the helsman and floored the interior. This added a large dry-storage area near the helsman. I keep charcoal, lighter, washing materials, desiel attitives, funnel, etc. plus a cigerette lighter plug for cockput electrical plug in. It should work just as well for your speakers. One word of caution. Make sure were ever you install speakers that they will not in any way effect your compass. Speakers have powerful magnets and their zone of influnce may supprise you. Check before you cut.Fairwinds and Rum Drinks,Vic C.

Use shielded speakers and you won't have to worry anywhere. I placed mine low on either side of the wheel, and sound great and don't interfere with anything. All you have to do is cut round holes.
