Can't Find This Leak

barefoot

<div>My M-383 has developed a leak over the quarterberth. It comes in
right where the cabin side meets the half bulkhead which forms
the forward end of the cockpit. The drip comes out of the
moulding at the corner where the vertical line of the cabin side
meets the horizontal line of the deck. It's hard to describe but
really easy to picture.I don't think water is coming in any of the ports, and I've
checked the inboard genoa track by pouring lots of water over it,
but no leak. There's a dodger right over this spot, so I don't
think there's any way it could be coming from the main sheet
winch or associated hardware, which are covered. Any suggestions what to try or where to look? Thanks.

Lenny,
I had this same leak on my 382. It came from the wood coaming attached to the cabin side and stretching into the cockpit. The winches are mounted on it. The leak was coming from the forward wide part that overlaps the vertical cabin bulkhead. I dug out the old bedding and replaced it with new. I did this begining of last season and have not had a leak since. I also, at the same time, rebeded the entire coaming.
Hope this is your answere.

Len, I don't know where your instruments are located but I had a similar leaaak a number of years ago. As you know my instruments are in a teak box on the sea hood. The lead wires for this is where mine leaked. A generious glob of Life Seal and annual checking has solved this one. It could also be dodger screws if thats how yours is moumted. Also check the screws in the sea hood. Good luck.

You might try looking at the deck drain pipe from underneath. If it leaks, like mine did, the water can travel across the quarterberth overhead and come out almost anywhere. After I replaced the drain fittings with larger sized pipe, I cut an access panel into the overhead before it was reinstalled so now the fittings can be inspected. It also makes it easier to run wiring.

<div>Lenny,It could also be the Water and Waste fill hose deck fitings. You do not have to get to the bottom of these fitting to recalk them. Just remove the screws pry them up, scrape off the old calk and rebed with Boatlife.Good luck, vic C.

I had a similar problem. My leak was from the screws that secure the deck drain grating. I re-bedded the screws. End of story.
