Cabin Sole refinishing - Lenny

Me too, Tom. How'd you strip the old varnish ? I started sanding but it went so slowly I've gone over to scraping. Wonder if you'd tried chemicals or a heat gun ?? Don.

Tom -- It's held up fine. The only problem is that I washed the floor with teaker cleaner and water in advance of applying the coating, and after several weeks there was still residual moisture between the floor strips. That badly clouded the finish in those areas. When I'm feeling energetic, I'm going to sand them down and reappy. So, don't use any wet stuff on the floor as part of the preparation process and I think you'll be pleased.

The product is actually called "Fabulon." The water-based version, which I used is "Crystal." You can get it in a building supply place frequented by woodworkers, probably not in a hardware store.

Actually, the cabin sole isn't too bad. I orbital sanded most of it 100 grit, then wet sanded with 400 grit. Then two coats of varnish. I asked Lenny, because I know from past experience that it will need a coat every six months to stay looking good. I like the "tooth" on varnish, for anti skid & needless to say, it is not six coats that you can look in to forever!!
