biminis

AS I age (and as the ozone layer thins), I find myself less
willing or able to sit in the sun for hours at a time. I have a
companionway dodger on my 382, but that is not enough. I know I
can extend that back towards the main sheet a bit, but I think
what I really need is a bimini or sailing shade for the
helmsman's location. If anyone has worked out a successful
approach to such an arrangement, could he or she please mail me
a picture or a drawing showing the design and attachment points?
My address is Terry Thatcher, 1818 SE 33rd Ave., Portland, OR
97214. thanks very much in advance to anyone who can help.

<div>Terry,
I have copied my bimini design/placement from my slip neighbors Gozzard 36, so I can't take credit for it. Seems to work well and is out of the way.
Simply put, the bimini is on three bows, the main bow is attached to each side of the top side rail of the stern pulpit. It all folds away against the back stay when not in use. I'll be glad to send you a diagram.Fred

I have a bimini that sounds very much like the one Fred described but I have taken it one step forward. I set up two points to attach the bimini. The aft point is used when the bimini is up and the forward point allows me to store the shade in front of the dodger. there it is out of the way. When the shade is set in the aft point, it folds and stores on top of the dodger and it is still out of the way. I used it last season quite a lot and used the storage position atop the dodger. I did not want to store it at the backstay. It seemed that it would be in the way. If you are intrested i pictures, e-mail me and I will get some out to you.
Truly
