Anyone installed a CDI feathering prop?

<div>Has anyone installed a Cruising Designs, Inc. (CDI) feathering
prop on an M-382/3/4? If so, how does it work and what was
involved in the installation? CDI's largest 3-blader is 14", so it looks like the 16" or 17"
two-blader would be the ticket. "Cruising World's" tests of
various props a couple of years ago'made the CDI two-blader look
quite good, both in forward and reverse. List price of the 16"
prop is $1080 and of the 17" $1140.Any experience with this prop would be appreciated.

Lenny: I do not have a CDI prop, but I did install a Max-Prop from PYI. Also as you may remember Stella is a CM, not a 382 or 3, BUT the problem could be the same if your prop is enclosed. (I am not certain about the 382's and 3's) Obtain the measurements of the prop. I mean its length from the shaft installation point to the end of the prop itself. I didn't and ended up having to shorten my shaft and grind out part of the fiberglass where the shaft exits the hull and on the leading edge of the rudder to accommodate the length of the prop. Further, because of the downward angle of the shaft make certain that when installed you will have enough vertical clearance for the blades. I installed a 15 inch two blade and have only a fraction of an inch clearance vertically, top and bottom. However, the change was well worth the effort. My speed increased nearly a half knot.
