Tuning

captrob

Robert Cohen
<div>Prior to purchaseing Oconee (M 382 #4) I sailed a Mull designed
Ranger 29 for 14 years. The rig was similar and I have tuned the
Morgan as I did the Ranger. The boat tracks well and sails her
self on a beat and reach. However, the mast head falls off to
leward about 6 inches in about 15 knot of air - from the spreader
down the mast appears straight as an arrow. I was always able to
keep the mast straight on the Ranger. The leward shrounds were
loose as you would expect but the mast was in column. Should I be concerned about the 6 inchs out of column from the
spreaders up in the Morgan? How tight should the rig be and how
do you experienced 382 folk tell when your rig is tensioned
correctly? Could it be that I just have the lower too tight?
