Trip to Santa Cruz

Last weekend I took Eliana to Santa Cruz. We stopped in Half Moon Bay on the way back. It wasn't much of a sail, motoring into 15-30 kt winds, and seas up to 12'. Both ways :( We could navigate by the wind vane. Any time we turned and though we might be able to sail, the wind shifted. But it was good for a shake down- she did really well in those conditions.

The only sailing we did was when we made the turn to the golden gate. With only half the jib, we made 7-8kt SOG.

Looks like an exciting ride! Thanks for sharing. I'm hoping to sail Zia down to the Bay Area in the next couple of years. Need new radar & sails first. Saving up some Boat Bucks.

Looks like your are just outside the surf break! How did you get that cool little read out on the video?

Warren ...I suspect some of that speed is rushing down the swells...Were you on a reach? It looks like you are flies hauled?

Coming into the Golden Gate, it's more likely a flood-tide giving Eliana a bit of a boost.

Currents can get up to 3-4 knots.

What time were you coming in, Warren?

The garmin virb camera has a built-in gps, and the software with it will add the gauges. With garmin instruments in the boat you can also add windspeed, direction, and boat speed.

I think you must have the fastest Morgan ever✌️It looks like you had a great trip! Love watching the viseos

Hi Warren,
In you haul out video, it looks like the yard is unaware that the last foot of the keel is the holding tank and thus hollow. Not a good place to block her up.
Cheers,
John

Yes I noticed that. The was the haulout for the survey. Fortunately, the boat was never taken out of the sling, and there was no damage. It also isn't the yard I will be using for anything I do.
