Through hull fittings

My 1981383 has the original through hull fittings which are glassed to the inside of the hull on the outside of the hull there is no flange or exposed fitting only a hole is this the practice of morgan on this year of boat? And can anyone tell me if there is a advantage to this type of fittings im adding a through hull fitting for my water maker aft on the starboard side just opposite of through hull for main seacock any advice would be appreciated

Unfortunately, Morgan did a poor job on the thru-hulls. The glass and resin is NOT the way to do it. I recommend you check out Rod Collins Marine How To on the web. He has good instructions on the way to install thru-hulls. I used his alternate method where there are no bolts thru the hull, but there are bolts sticking out of the backing plate so I can use nuts to attach the seacock securely. I put my water maker seacock aft of the main engine seacock on the port side, but then my water maker is tucked up under the port coaming and the feed pump is down in the low forward part of the cockpit locker. Oh, and the reason there appears to be no outside flange is because Morgan used flush thru-hulls which fit into a scalloped out part of the hull. Since you will want an outside scoop and strainer for your water maker, that is not an option and, in any case, on my Morgan 382 the thru hull locations have the dished out part molded in. The hull in most places is not thick enough to create a dished shape for flush mount thruhulls just by drilling and sanding. Check out the archives of the site for others who dealt with the Morgan thruhulls.
