Over the past couple of years Mary and I have been looking for a different boat. The Morgan is a great boat but didn’t have the layout we wanted. With covid the market was difficult, we lost several chances on buying not one but two Bristol 45’s than a Little Harbor44 was past up because we could not get there. Eventually we ended up going to Grenada, West Indies and looked at a Topper Hermanson 44, very simular to a Van de Statd 44. Steel hull with upper aluminum structure. We are very pleased with the purchase and are excited to fly down this coming week to put it back in the water and sail it back home to Maine. We plan on 21/2 to 3 months. I have one more year before retirement and having it back here will give me time to work on it. I was lucky enough to sell my boat in 5 months. A testament to the Morgan Boat. I will drop in every so often and check out the posts and catch up. Here is a couple of pictures. This is the best website I have seen for a sailboat forum. While looking I tried many but most sites were not active. Keep up the good work Mark but it also takes the members civil participation to make it happen and this the best one out there! Rick

Beautiful boat!! It’s no Morgan but i guess that’s ok…. Haha. If you share any more photos be sure to let us know, I’d love to see more of that boat. Best of luck to you. Keep us updated

Hi Rick - congrats, and that's a very nice looking new boat! I'm curious: how did you sell your Morgan? I.e. website, broker, yachtworld.com, etc.
I've sailed from Grenada up to Martinique, and I'm guessing that's the route you'll take? We loved that trip, and I hope you'll have time to enjoy the places along the way. The Grenadines were a dreamy wonderland. I want to go back there and just hang out for a week or two.

Thanks for all your contributions to this site, and please do stop by and say hi when you can. And post some photos of your voyage!
Cheers,
-Mark

Rick, She is a beautiful boat, looks like a real go anywhere, do anything comfortably kinda boat! We have kicked around going bigger. Mostly my wife, but recently she told me she doesn't want to sell Sonata, Whew! I am happy.
I too appreciate all you have contributed here. You're part of the reason we own Sonata.
Fair winds, and hope to hear more of your adventure too.
Mitchell

Congratulations. Looks like a fine vessel. I have always wanted something that will bounce off reefs. You now have such a vessel--and a cutter to boot. Who was the naval architect?

Hi Guys, thanks for the compliments,BJ I have a lot of pictures I can share! Mark, I Had the boat listed on Sailboatlistings.com, Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. We got the most response from Marketplace but pulled in quite a few from sailboat listings. I had one person drive all the way from Florida to look at it. My wife scoffed at me for making such a detailed list of the work I did but it proved in the end that is what sailors like to see. 50% of the the people that contacted us were a scam but you figure out real quickly how to identify them. My wife showed the boat to the first person that looked at it, his first question, what is that, Mary said what is what and he pointed to the keel! People looking….. must start somewhere. Mitch its going to be great! I have a lot of tools going with me not much to be done but I can’t go out without basic stuff. Terry Thanks! It will be interesting to sail a cutter. The designer was Walt Scott.

I bounced my boat of a reef at 5 knots. The damage was limited to scratched paint on the leading edge of the keel. So, I think you have the boat you want.

Rick

Congratulations on the new boat. We will miss you here on the Board. If we get back up to Maine we will stop by for a visit. If you guys travel down the Sound, stop in Hempstead Harbor for a beer.

Jim

Hi guys, down in Grenada working hard to get the boat in the water. Lots of things to do and chase out to understand, slow going down here, hot and I have never drank some much water. The one thing I miss is all my tools and stuff. I brought what I could, weight limits. TSA confiscated a couple of tools that was 1/4” over the limit. Expensive here but we have a car and are finding places to shop that are slightly cheaper.
Mitch and Jim thanks for the compliment, Maybe on the way back Jim, will keep you posted!
