shower faucet replacment

Barry Schnur
I'd like to replace the shower faucet mechanism in my 382, but it's not apparent to me how to get the old one out without cutting holes. Am I missing something? Any advice would be welcomed.

<div>I own a 383 that has a panel cut out below the bench in the shower. I opened it last week and found a hollow space but no access to the shower facet.I also have a cut out of the same size, about 14" X 8", below the storage cabinet on the port side of the head. It is right behind the lid for the head when the lid is lifted. From this location you can reach behind the shower stall and get to the facet. There is not a lot of space but you can gain access this way.My guess is that the previous owner had a problem with this fixture and ended up cutting two holes when he found that the access he cut below the shower bench did not allow him the access he wanted.

In a boat like the Morgan, storage is something to find. These two areas can hold lots. I've installed access hatches, 10 3/4"X15" that are waterproof and white that provide access and storage; West Marine page 799-98 catalog.
This access hatch also works quite well as a lid for the hamper and keeps laundry from getting wet if the portlight is open.

Mine leaked when it was new and Morgan repaired it. they cut an access hole just below it I believe fixed whatever it was and used a piece of teak with beveled edges to cover it. I varnished it and it has been fine since. Morgan also cut an access hole on the vertical area of the shower seat for glass work as part of one of my bulkhead repair jobs. This is covered with white lexan, both look fine. If you want exact hole locations advise and I will measure next weekend. Happy Sailing.
