Sea water pump leak

Hello everyone I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. My 382 has a Yanmar 3qm fresh water cooled and the raw water pump 721390-42700 is leaking. Mack boring told me it's obsolete and rebuild parts are no longer available. Has anyone Been able to get a pump adapted to this motor. Maybe some type of bracket and pully. Most pumps on newer years are also smaller pumps. And From what I understand sea water pumps on fresh water cooled motors are bigger than the same motor raw water cooled. Any thoughts or ideas?

The 3QM30 raw water pump does not exist anymore. A couple of years ago I searched all over the US and Japan for a replacement. Even if you could find one, the cost would cause you to change your skivvies. What you can do is find the salt water pump seals, Yanmar part # 145410-46080, they should still be available. It's fairly easy to do the replacement. The pump, which is driven off the cam shaft, leaks because of wear on the pump shaft. New seals stop the leaks for a while. I've redone the seals twice now and it's holding. Speaking to a machinist about the problem, he said to bring him the pump when the seals no longer work. He can make a new pump shaft. Another option would be an after market belt driven pump mounted on or near the front of the engine. On the 3QM30 the raw water pump is the same for both fresh water and salt water cooled versions. At one point I was going to buy his old engine just for spare parts.

Hope this will be of some help to you.

Order enough seals to do the rebuild a couple of times. You'll need two seals per. Depending on how worn the shaft is, the seals don't last too long. Although it's been two or more years since I last rebuilt, they are still holding. Good luck.

I installed A Jabsco # 2760-0003 pump. Put on a piece of angle on engine front cover below alternator, using two cover bolts. Then mounted pump to angle with a couple bolts. I did have to shim the pump out a little bit to get the new alternator belt to fall into adjustment range. Works and pump and parts available. I'll try and get some photo's.

I give up rebuilding the seawater pump on my 3qm. On its third rebuild. May try to have a new shaft made. I see some photos of a jabsco pump on scupper. Looking at the photos it doesn't appear to be a 3qm. Can someone identity it. Looks like it might be the way to go.

John those photos appear to be on a raw water cooled 3QM .3QM fresh water cooled would have another pulley for the fresh water pump to the left of the alternator. I don't think this configuration would work well with four pulleys
