Rudder and Center board Issue Morgan 38 1969

We recently acquired a Morgan 38 and are getting her ready for a long trip.

When we tried to drop the rudder, it seemed impossible without damaging the fiberglass. We’ve disconnected everything, but it keeps getting stuck in that crevice at the back of the keel where rudder sits. Has anyone here had experience with this issue? Pictures are attached below.

Also, we discovered that the centerboard is shaking. It wasn’t used by the previous owner, and we only noticed this movement while the boat was on the ground. It seems to have excessive play. Has anyone here completed a centerboard repair before? Pictures of this are attached as well.

Please if you have any info on the centerboard raising system please share.

We’re hoping to get some guidance on these issues.

Thanks!

Hi Gogi The 4 files are original info on the CB from Morgan. On my boat I had serious corrosion on the ss cable where it enters the ss epoxy filled tube, so I replaced the ss tube with a delrin rod and spliced a new cable made of vectran to the end of the delrin rod. I put a dyneema chafe sleeve over the vectran cable to protect it from barnacles. There is lots of info on the CB on the site, just search M38. centerboard

Hi Bill! Thank you so much for the info. Really appreciate your help. My boat has the same issue. The cable and the bracket that holds it are to be replaced. I will make sure to share the repairs.
