Replacing opening ports

cavale

JIM & MARGE HUTCHISON
This past weekend we replaced the forward two opening ports on the stbd side. Four ports have now been done over. The ports in the head and the one in the quarterberth both have extended extrusions which Pompanette, Inc., who supplys the replacement Grey Marine ports, says they do not bother to make any longer. Has anyone found a sourse for the deeper ports?

I have replaced all my portlights with Lewmar and have also added one in the galley area towards the cockpit and one from the quarter berth into the cockpit. They are size 2 except for the galley which is size 1. I have replaced both hatches with Lewmar size 60 Ocean, I think that size is correct. The portlight in the head and quarter berth require two trim rings bonded together to create a thicker trim ring. I purchased the portlights from Morgan in Florida at a reduced price because I owned a Morgan but I'm not sure if they still do it.

I also have replaced all my ports(don't have one in the quarterberth). The five were replaced with ss ports similiar to the Hood ss ports but were purchased from John Edelman from Nova Scotia who sells @ various boat shows for much less money than Hood. These ports are somewhat larger than the original Grey Marine and were a lot of work to install, they look great, work great and don't leak. At the same time I replaced the lexan ports, all teak plywood at window level and the headliner material. In order to solve the head window problem I had a 316 ss extension welded to the ss port. This will also never leak. All were bedded in liveseal which hopefully will have a long life.

<div>Dick,Do you have a contact number or address for John Edelman from Nova Scotia? I'd like to contact him about replacement ports. Thanks, Ed

<div>No joke on an address on him. I'm thinking of replacing the fixed ports with opening ones and I wonder if he'd have some of the same size as the existing holes.....Bill

Ed: Sorry, don't have the name of edelmans Co or phone number at this location, I will have to look it up this weekend and get back to you next week. The ports cost me $ 150.00 Ea. about 3 years ago and are tiawanize and of excellent quality. The Hoods were $411.00 at that time. Back to you next week.

I have just finished replacing all the opening ports on my 382. I purchased directly from Pompanette. The ports seem to be an exact replacement. For the head, I decided to buy two, cut the extrusion from one with a hack saw and had it welded to the other at a local plastic shop, thereby extending it. It sacrificed the one port, but I have a spare light and screen. Worked great, looks great, no leaks, no modification to boat and easily done
